Welcome

I have several interests to share through this blog including my love of needlework, quilting, cooking, and my pets, Molly and Butterscotch. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with adding to most of these areas over time. I hope you enjoy it.

Pre-stitching for Behold Thy Beauty

Most of my stitching lately has been for a class with Jackie du Plesis in July for "Behold Thy Beauty".  There are five band sections for the body of the bag, the top and bottom of the bag and some smalls.  Here is my progress to date.  I have 3 out of 5 sections for the bag completed plus the top and bottom.

I'm taking a break and decided to go back to working on The Toy Chest from Betsy Morgan for awhile.  I'll try to post pictures of that later.  In the meantime, here are the the fruits of my labor so for the last two weekend classes with Betsy up in the Chicago area.  On the left is the pin cushion for "Tall Year Square", in the middle is the barrel button we made in class that go on each corner for TYS, and on the right is the waxer keep for "This One's for Betty"

Happy Stitching!

...and Now for a Little Gardening

Last fall I posted pictures of my landscaping projects.  I thought I would show updates for spring.

One the right you can see my flowering crab bush at full height

...then you can see the shrub all cut down....

...and now it's growing back nicely.

...and now a few flowers...

...and a little landscaping work during my week off in April...

Happy Spring!

Better Late than Never

It's been some time since my last post.  Life has a way of doing that to us.  Here is a little picture walk of the last eight months.

This is Common Thread 2 from the Jeanette Douglas retreat "Close to Home" in Cambridge, Ontario in September 2015.  It was a really nice all-inclusive retreat.  The best part was the exchange rate which made it even more affordable.  We had the choice of doing either the sampler pictured below or the Pumpkin Box (pictured previously).

Since I had already taken the Pumpkin Box at Tomorrow's Heirlooms in July, Jeanette gave us the opportunity to select the Bird Box instead.

That was the last of my classes for 2015.  I thought that 2016 was going to be better, but it turned out to be worse.

In April we drove up tp Minnesota to Stitchville's Spring Fling to take Betsy Morgan's Bristol Bag class.  Here is the model - mine is still in progress.

I made pin cushions as gifts for my friends for this trip.  I was inspired by the red and white fabric for the class piece.

Last weekend we traveled to Elgin to take another class from Betsy - "This One's for Betty" and this weekend we are taking our third and final class of the year from her - "Tall Year Square".  I'll post pictures of those later.

There are even more classes coming up this year - July is Jackie duPlesis with the "Unplayed Piano Etiu" and  "Behold Thy Beauty"; August is Lauren Sauer's "Book of Berries"; September is Sherri Jones of Patricks Woods with "A Gift by Hand Conferred" and "Afternoon Leisure Basket"; and October is my fourth Shepherd's Bush retreat.  As if that isn't enough, I am also driving up to Wisconsin in July for a class with Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings to do Wool Applique and then over to Door County for a few days.

Here are some pictures of some of my finishes.

"Over the River" from Jeanette Douglas

"Peace and Plenty" pin cushions from Shepherd's Bush.
The one on the left is for me and the right was made for a friend.

"A Merry Heart" from Plum Street Samplers

The ruler holder for Shepherd's Bush "The Fold"

Notforgotten Farms "Scissors Pillow"

Sewing Roll project from Catherine Theron for guilds in 2015
"When Barnabeee Met Bella" Biscornu from Just Nan

Needle book and pin keep for the Blue Ribbon Sewing Box from Sherri Jones

"Gratutude" (aka "Her World") from Shepher'ds Bush
The kit was a gift from my MN friend Cathy Boyd

And now for some framed pieces....

"My Story" from Jeanette Douglas

"The Beekeeper" from Plum Street Samplers

"Sampler Hill" from With Thy Needle and Thread

"Queen Bee" from Shepherd's Bush

That's all for now.  Best Stitches!
