I have several interests to share through this blog including my love of needlework, quilting, cooking, and my pets, Molly and Butterscotch. Hopefully I will be able to keep up with adding to most of these areas over time. I hope you enjoy it.

Spring Fling - Part 2

We arrived at the Oak Ridge Hotel and Conference Center on Thursday evening, April 3rd for our first Stitchville Spring Fling Retreat.  We were greeted by my friend Cathy Boyd, had dinner with other early arrivers in the upstairs lounge area, then departed to our rooms for a really good night's sleep.  Overnight, they received about 8 inches of snow, but we didn't mind as we were warn and snug at our destination.  We spent the late morning/early afternoon stitching, then departed for the registration area about 3:00 that afternoon.  Most of the ladies arrive early and congregate outside of the conference room door eagerly awaiting the opening of the event at 4:00 pm.

When we registered we received a wonderful project bag with some wonderful hand lotion inside.  When we entered the classroom there were more gifts awaiting us including the beautiful tray, pincushion and needle rest - all pictured below.

Our teacher for the retreat was Cynthia Zittel from The Drawn Thread.

Our Friday night project was a scissor fob designed to coordinate with our main project for the weekend.  Some of the ladies (our local friends Cathy Boyd and Chris Canaday) were very motivated and finished theirs that night, then proceeded to finish it for others over the weekend.  They were also making cording for anyone who asked - way to go!!

On Saturday, we were introduced to the main project for the weekend.  Cynthia had outdone herself by designing two versions of the project - a pocket version that complimented the scissor fob all done on lovely lavender linen with Needlepoint, Inc. and Dinky Dye silks and a sampler version that she had stitched on cream linen with a different format using the same motifs that she used on the pocket.
Outside of the pocket

Inside of the pocket - I love the purple silk she used to line the piece!

The sampler version - I may have to stitch this version as well
as she gave us the charts to do both!
Saturday evening we had the opportunity to go to Stitchville USA to do a bit of shopping.  We carpooled our way over there with our table mate from IL Marilyn.  I came with list in hand and was able to find the most important items on the list - some limited edition pieces from the recent Nashville Market.

Attendees of the retreat brought show and tell items from our stash that were designed by Cynthia.

The two on the left were my contribution to the show and tell table -
I thought they would travel well.

I love the box used for this spot sampler - I think I need to go on the hunt for it.  :)
A great time was had by all!  We left Chaska on Sunday afternoon and made it home to Indiana in about 11 hours.  I made it back to town in time to register for my next retreat - the 2014 Shepherd's Bush retreat.  Looking forward to that one in October!
Best Stitches,
